Hello,

I am planning to place a chest of drawers in our bathroom. However, the chest would be at risk of occasionally getting wet at the bottom in the planned spot. Could this lead to mold growth?

I hope this won’t be a problem...

Hi,

“Regular” dressers do not belong in the bathroom. They are typically made of particleboard with a laminate or wood veneer finish. As a result, they will eventually swell or warp when exposed to moisture. Even if you are careful to keep them dry, the high humidity from showering or bathing is usually enough to cause damage.

Bathroom-specific furniture is a better choice. Although these also have a particleboard core, they are better glued and usually stand on taller legs.

Best regards

We have also applied a protective coating to our bathroom furniture to help prevent moisture penetration and especially to inhibit mold growth. So far, it is working very well.

Exactly, if you don’t install bathroom furniture or specially treat the standard ones, mold will start to develop sooner or later. Even a single warm shower is enough to create moisture in the bathroom.
