Hello everyone,

my house is about to flood.
The water is standing right at the house, and clay has been pushed up behind it so that it doesn't drain away.

The site manager thinks this is fine, and the inspector is relaxed about it.
Can I be relaxed too?

Is a drainage system necessary with clayey soil, and if so, who is responsible for installing it, the developer?
I haven’t found anything about this in the contract.

Thank you very much!

It was not necessarily specified that we needed a drainage system because the waterproof concrete structure ("white tank") would be sufficient. Of course, the waterproof concrete is adequate for the basement and house, but the plot itself remains "wet." We were only able to keep the plot dry thanks to the drainage systems.

I would somewhat question that. Because with drainage, you actually attract all surrounding water to your site. For this reason, we only install drainage when it cannot be avoided.

Our situation was a bit special as well. We have a sloped plot of land, and since a spring flows from above, we installed an additional drainage system between our property and the neighboring one where the spring originates, in addition to the drainage around the house. This way, we effectively "dried out" the land (because the spring was not very deep and caused the surface of the plot to become saturated).
