Hi everyone,

Here’s the situation: we have a front door with a motorized lock, and initially planned to install a Gira doorbell system with intercom and fingerprint sensor there. The wiring is all set up for that.

Now, as part of landscaping work, we’ve decided to add a garden gate. Normally it will remain closed (to keep the kids in the garden and prevent them from wandering off), the mailbox is also located there, and visitors are expected to ring there first.

It doesn’t really make sense to be able to open the front door by fingerprint, but still have to dig out the key to open the garden gate. So ideally, the gate should also have a doorbell with intercom and fingerprint sensor. There is an 8-wire phone cable and power supplied there, so we have all options.

Aside from the extra cost involved with a second fingerprint sensor:

Apparently, with Gira and other brands, you cannot connect two external stations to one internal station; I only find setups with one door station and multiple indoor stations.

Question 1:

Is there no system like that? Installing two indoor stations side-by-side seems a bit odd to me!

Since the garden gate is not security-critical, another option would be a more affordable system that could also work through my Fritzbox and the connected phones. Internet-based solutions like Doorbird and similar would also be an option.

Question 2:

Does anyone have recommendations for systems worth checking out?

There are lots of doorbell systems out there, but ones with fingerprint sensors are much harder to find.

Best regards,

Andreas

Hi,
thanks for the replies, I’ve been very busy with work lately... The Ekey modules aren’t cheaper than Gira either; they also charge over 500 euros for a fingerprint sensor.

The Gira stations can supposedly control two door stations, you have to do some tweaking, but it should work.

With Doorbird, I see the problem that they apparently must be connected to the network. That is an absolute no-go. It seems to be the same with Goliath.

So I haven’t made much progress yet... since the garden gate issue seems to be off the table for now (the suppliers apparently don’t even bother to cancel, they just stop responding...)
I will probably stick with a simple solution just for the front door for now.

Best regards,

Andreas

Why do you specifically want Gira? In my opinion, it only makes sense if you have everything from Gira (KNX...). Otherwise, it only brings disadvantages because you are less flexible. No one said that Ekey is cheaper. But it is better than Gira’s fingerprint readers. Mobotix, for example, would also be an option in combination with Ekey.
