Hello dear home builders,

Do you have a water softening system? Is it really worth it, or is it just a money-making scheme?
Our architect recommended one to us, but the question is whether the 3000 euros really justify it.
I think that’s a lot of money.

Our water hardness is 19. That is quite hard.
Questions: Who else has water this hard and manages it with a water softener? Is the effect really noticeable in the bathroom, on fittings, etc.? Which water softener works well? Also in terms of price-performance ratio? Does it have to be Grünbeck, or are there cheaper alternatives? Context: We would install something like this to reduce the constant limescale buildup on showerheads and faucets. We only drink the water when making coffee; otherwise, we drink purchased sparkling water.

From 24 °dH down to 6-7 °dH with Grünbeck.
Other water softening systems using salt also work. I just have a Grünbeck because I used to work there.
Yes, you can definitely feel the difference!
Or rather, we notice pretty quickly when the salt needs to be refilled, because then everything quickly gets scaled. Sometimes you forget that ^^

So you’re recommending it, if I understand correctly. Ok, thanks.

It is unnecessary, it consumes electricity, it uses salt, and it is not environmentally friendly.
But yes, it does make life quite a bit easier and helps protect the hot water tank.

I can only confirm that ... we have the Judo and it is great ... incredible comfort.

I wouldn’t want to be without the system either.
In the kitchen alone, we have the cold water supply before the water softener, as the softened water doesn’t taste as good.
