Hello dear home builders,
Do you have a water softening system? Is it really worth it, or is it just a money-making scheme?
Our architect recommended one to us, but the question is whether the 3000 euros really justify it.
I think that’s a lot of money.

Sure, the Grünbeck looks nicer, with an app and other features, but am I missing an important point that speaks in favor of Grünbeck?Grünbeck is DVGW-certified and "Made in Bavaria." Alfiltra is just a generic product from East Asia (identical to Aqmos, Water2buy, Filtrasoft, Aquintos...) without DVGW certification, probably without resin bed disinfection. And no factory customer service. Of course, you can connect something like that to your drinking water supply since it’s cheap. I just wouldn’t do it.hausamfeld schrieb:
Of course, the Grünbeck system is more stylish, with an app and other features, but am I missing an important point that speaks in favor of Grünbeck? What do you think about salt tablet consumption? Our Grünbeck uses about 25 kg (55 lbs) of salt per year when softening water from 16 to 5 dH (degrees German hardness). There are 2.5 people in the household.
Friends of ours (in the same town) have a blue BWT system; they use 25 kg (55 lbs) every 2 months…
Our Grünbeck SD21 is designed for 4 people and reduces 19 dH to 6 dH.
During the summer months, when we consume 20 m³ (700 cubic feet) or more, about 15 kg (33 pounds) of salt is used, so not even a whole bag. This is due to irrigation and may not apply equally to everyone.
In all other months, consumption is between 2 and 3 kg (4.4 to 6.6 pounds)!
From June 2022 until now, we have used 59 kg (130 pounds) — 3 bags at about €20 each — which I consider completely reasonable.
The system cost a total of €2000 in 2021, with installation costing an additional €200.

That’s why they had the outdoor faucets installed as a branch before the water softener. Although we are almost at the end of the times as well after less than a year, it is for other reasons... My wife has millions of houseplants and doesn’t always feel like going outside. I haven’t installed the faucet in the kitchen with untreated water yet...
