Hello, we are considering buying a plot of land where an old house used to stand. The house has already been demolished, only the basement from 1970 remains. This would need a complete renovation. However, we would prefer to demolish it and build a new basement with a waterproof concrete shell (white tank).
How much should we expect for the demolition of the basement? Is it possible to partially backfill the area if a different shape is needed for the new basement?

In April, we had our house with a small basement demolished. Including self-stripping and filling, it cost 20,000. It could have been cheaper, but I wanted the construction company to handle it. How large was the house approximately, and how many containers did you need for the self-stripping? In other words: Was the self-stripping worth it after deducting the disposal costs?

However, we didn’t use a container; we actually took everything separately to the landfill. Many items were reused by my sons for sheds and similar purposes. We also gave some away for free in exchange for self-removal. By posting in classified ads, you can always find enthusiasts for reusable materials.S

It could have been cheaper, but I preferred to have it done by the general contractor. What do you mean by self-stripping? In our case, the basement would be a simple concrete basement. You would only need to remove two empty oil tanks, an old heating system, and a wooden window. Or do you mean stripping the entire house?
But that is a good starting point. Our plan of 15,000 EUR (about 15,000 USD) without re-compacting isn’t too far off.
We just wanted a rough reference point so we don’t bid too high for the land and then get surprised by the costs later.

In our case, the basement would be a purely concrete basement. What do you think now after reading my reading tips regarding the consideration of whether to actually demolish the basement? The offer stands; the question here is to discuss it with plans.

The offer is on the table, and the question here is to discuss it with plans. I think it’s better to have a professional assess the situation. Someone who can examine the basement and soil conditions on site in detail.
