Hello everyone,
We have planned a dormer with triangular windows in the bedroom on the upper floor.
Does anyone have experience with blackout solutions for such windows?
There are roller shutters that can be installed on these windows. However, in our size, depending on the type, they start at around €3500 (approximately $3800) or more. That is, of course, a significant amount of money.
As alternatives, I thought of pleated blinds or curtains. Curtains somehow don’t look very appealing. I’m skeptical whether pleated blinds can truly provide complete blackout. My partner needs total darkness to sleep...
So, my question is:
Does anyone here have such blackout pleated blinds and can say whether their blackout performance is comparable to that of roller shutters?
Or does anyone have a secret tip on how we might otherwise achieve darkness in the bedroom?

Hello,
getting something truly dark will be difficult.
One idea might be a blackout roller blind that is attached at the bottom edge of the window and cut into a triangular shape towards the top. The operation would then be from bottom to top, like a triangular shutter.
However, it’s not really very attractive, and some light will still leak through the edges.
If your partner really wants complete darkness, you’ll probably have to spend the €3,500 for the shutter or change the dormer window to a rectangular shape.
Best regards,
Andreas
