Hello everyone,
Lately, every morning the windows in our apartment are extremely damp (almost wet), and the indoor humidity is noticeably too high. This has been the case even throughout the summer.
With the colder weather outside, mold has started to appear and is becoming more visible day by day. Currently, the mold is forming only under and around the windows, and I believe it’s on the west side of the building.
We have only been living in the apartment since April, so I can’t say how it was before. We have already talked to the landlord about it, and he said there were no previous problems.
My question is, what could be causing such high humidity in the apartment?
Also, this is a multi-family house, and the exterior façade was recently repainted. Could it be related to the paint somehow preventing moisture from escaping?

If all other tenants experienced the same issues, this would indicate that the causes of the high indoor humidity levels are indeed (partly) due to the building envelope.
Otherwise, the landlord might suspect that the behavior of a single tenant is the sole cause of the high humidity.
Have you measured the relative humidity? What is the level? How and how often is ventilation carried out?

The building superintendent confirmed to me that there is mold throughout the entire house, and that it spreads every year during winter, causing ongoing problems with removal.
It was also confirmed to me that the cause is structural. The house is not properly insulated around the radiators, which creates a thermal bridge where mold also forms.
Does anyone have knowledge of tenant rights? The landlord still claims that we are responsible. Since we are the only tenants in the building and all other units are owner-occupied, we have to handle this on our own. We are receiving some support from the superintendent, who will confirm to the landlord that this is a construction defect.
Because the landlord did not inform us about the mold in the house, we want to move out. Knowing about the mold beforehand, we would not have moved in.
Are we allowed to terminate the lease without notice due to the mold and the misinformation?
If anyone can recommend a website with the exact legal regulations, that would be very helpful.
