I have just taken over my parents' house, which has been heated with old-fashioned room heaters until now. I would like to install a modern natural gas central heating system and would like to know what kind of cost range I should roughly expect.

The house has a living area of about 100 m² (1,076 sq ft). In my estimation, I will need 12 radiators. Of course, there are no gas connections or pipes yet—there really isn’t anything.

How much will I probably have to invest?

I think it is very difficult to assess this from a distance. If you have the opportunity, you could ask around in the area and see how much they might offer you for it. But it will probably be around 10,000 francs.

In euros, I would estimate a completely new heating system at around €16,000. In Swiss francs, that would be approximately 19,000 CHF—if I have calculated correctly. Of course, you cannot convert this 1:1 since labor and construction product costs differ between Germany and Switzerland. However, the estimate should be in the right range.

You obviously can’t convert this 1:1, as wages and construction material costs differ between Germany and Switzerland. However, this should give you a rough idea.

I carried out this work in our family home, which has roughly the same living area. I installed 14 radiators. The total cost amounted to 22,000 CHF. However, much of the work was done by myself.

For us, the cost of installing a gas heating system was about 20,000 francs. However, we had the necessary connections nearby. Otherwise, the overall cost would have been significantly higher.
