Our new terrace on the south side needs flooring. It would be ideal if it stays dry underneath.
The first thing that comes to mind is aluminum tread plate (diamond plate).
A friend said that in summer, it might become too hot to walk on!
Has anyone experienced this issue or know about it?

Hello,
to put it simply, it's a really bad idea. We have checker plate as flooring in our garden house. If the door is open and the sun shines on the floor, you can’t walk on it barefoot anymore. It gets extremely hot. It might not be enough to grill a steak, but definitely hot enough for a fried egg.
Really not recommended!
Best regards,
Andreas

Thank you for the replies.
I would have preferred a simple construction that doesn’t require an additional layer of waterproofing (I try to avoid plastic where possible).
The appearance and the feel underfoot do not bother me.
To be honest, I’m not sure how much I trust the authors of the sarcastic comments. To me, it sounds like: "this has never been done this way before," but since there are also serious responses and no one saying, "I have done this and it works," I assume: it will probably get uncomfortably warm in the sun 🙂

I can also share from my own experience that the aluminum diamond plate, which is just under 1m2 (10.8 sq ft) in size and is installed at my old house (bridging the balcony to the entrance area), definitely gets too hot to walk on barefoot. But the material is practical nonetheless 😉
I was just hoping to finally have a place where I can fry 800 fried eggs at the same time 😉 (for when guests come over or something like that)
What a pain: now I’m back to the “which wood should I use?” problem 😡
