Our new terrace on the south side needs flooring. It would be ideal if it stays dry underneath.
The first thing that comes to mind is aluminum tread plate (diamond plate).
A friend said that in summer, it might become too hot to walk on!
Has anyone experienced this issue or know about it?

A friend said that in summer you probably won't be able to walk on it anymore because it gets too hot! It won’t feel any different than a car hood in the sun.
Honestly, how do people come up with such nonsense?
The idea comes from a metalworker who covered a narrow exit at our house with aluminum diamond plate and said that this is his standard material choice.

who covered a narrow doorstep at our house with aluminum checker plate and said that was his standard material choice. and these doorsteps become very hot in summer. For a spot where you don’t step on it, that’s fine. Otherwise, no. So definitely not suitable for a terrace.

- it gets incredibly hot in the sun
- appearance and feel on the feet
- cost
Arguments in favor, because:
- in summer, no need for grill or pan, thus energy-saving food preparation
- unusual and likely unique look in Germany
- easy to clean with a pressure washer
