Hello,

Currently, our house is equipped with a heat pump heating system that uses exhaust air from the ventilation system (the unit is from Stiebl Eltron). Since the system is defective, we want to replace the heating. The plan is to install a split air-source heat pump supported by solar thermal energy.

However, there is a problem with the ventilation system. There are four exhaust vents (kitchen, guest toilet, bathroom, and hallway). The six air inlets go directly through the wall, so the incoming air is not preheated. This is particularly uncomfortable in the living room. From an energy perspective, I also find it rather inefficient when cold air around -10°C (14°F) enters in winter.

My question is: Are there systems that can use the exhaust air and also preheat the incoming air? How does this look from an energy efficiency standpoint? It would basically be a hybrid between centralized and decentralized ventilation...

Thank you very much for your help

Sounds illogical – heating up external fresh air – that sounds like the idea of a pure air heating system (electrical, of course). Since ventilating the entire house through the kitchen or bathroom is probably not desired either. It would make more sense to skip the exhaust ducts and instead install a decentralized ventilation system with heat recovery. However, the model I know doesn’t fully convince me. The principle: air is extracted on one side, a heat storage unit is charged with the exhaust air, and after a certain time, the ventilation direction is reversed, and the heat is transferred back to the incoming air. On the opposite side of the building, a second unit must of course be involved.

Would it be possible to retrofit a purely central system? That would be the more interesting solution...

Hello,

I know it sounds illogical. So far, I haven’t found a suitable solution. That’s why I’m asking here in the forum.

I definitely don’t want a pure air heating system. I’ve only found the solutions already mentioned. For a central unit, supply air ducts would have to be installed in every room, which is too complicated for me.

May I ask which decentralized device you are referring to? And if so, what is the reason for the dissatisfaction with it?

@haiopei

Try searching for Ventomaxx heat recovery ventilation or SEVentilation or inventer. These are decentralized ventilation systems with heat recovery, suitable for wall installation.

There is also the Lunos e2.

Perhaps Meltem heat recovery units could also be installed directly at the existing supply air openings. Advantage compared to Lunos, etc.: no oscillating operation!
