markus90Hello,
I am new to the forum and would like to ask my first question(s).
I installed a Geberit concealed cistern in cooperation with a plumbing company. (The company handled the water connection pressing and so on, and I installed 2 layers of 12.5mm (0.5 inch) Fermacell boards.)
Now to my actual question:
- After the boarding was done, I noticed that in the installation instructions the cistern frame was directly screwed to or mounted onto. In my case, there is about 10 to 15cm (4 to 6 inches) of space to the next metal profile, as shown in the pictures. Is this sufficient?
- Or should I later add self-drilling Geberit panel screws directly into the frame to prevent it from flexing and possibly causing cracks in the tiles in the toilet area?
- If yes, I am concerned about metal shavings falling into the structure and eventually causing rust or other issues.
What would you do?
Thanks in advance for your answers.
Regards,

- After installing the drywall, I noticed that in the assembly instructions, screws are placed directly next to or into the frame of the concealed cistern. In my case, there is about 10 - 15 cm (4 - 6 inches) of space to the next metal stud, as shown in the pictures. Is that enough? The Geberit frame is self-supporting. However, I wouldn’t recommend having more than 40 cm (16 inches) distance to the next support beam.
The original Geberit system studs specify a maximum spacing of 55 cm (22 inches).
The option to screw sideways into the metal profiles is only necessary when the pre-wall element cannot be anchored to a rear wall—meaning it is free-hanging (for example, if there is a drywall partition behind the wall).
And yes, Geberit themselves use self-drilling screws to attach the drywall at intervals of 12-16 cm (5-6 inches) to the two vertical studs.

If yes, I’m concerned that metal shavings might fall into the construction and eventually cause rust and similar issues. Why? That’s exactly what it’s designed for. And if something in your pre-wall construction starts to rust, you probably have a completely different problem.
