Hello,

I have a question about the interior finishing of my garage.
I would like to line the inside with OSB boards, using timber battens and 80mm (3 inches) mineral wool insulation underneath. The wall thickness is 24cm (9.5 inches) brick.
Is this approach okay, or should I expect issues with condensation or similar?

Thanks and best regards, Christoph

You mean the roof? A flat roof? I wouldn’t recommend doing that over a large area, because where would the moisture go?

That’s just my amateur opinion, since OSB is quite airtight.

OSB itself is never airtight; however, it can be used as a vapor retarder if joints and connections are sealed and taped.

Try entering your wall structure into a U-value calculator. Is the garage heated?

@One00: The garage is unheated. I find that OSB paneling with insulation is cheaper than interior plaster. Besides, I think it looks quite nice, so that’s why I’m considering it. Regardless of whether or not to use a vapor barrier, I just want to know if it works when the insulation is directly against the masonry.

Thanks and best regards, Christoph

Then just ask the U-value calculator.
