Hello dear house building forum,
We are planning a (small) renovation of our basement. After taking over the property from the previous owners, we initially just gave it a rough sweep, but after three years, we want to tackle it properly.
The house dates back to 1956, and the basement walls are currently plastered and painted with lime paint. Accordingly, we want or need to use mineral paint again. Dispersion paint would not be suitable for this basement.
Since lime paint has low abrasion resistance, we are considering using silicate paint for the new coat.
Is it possible to simply apply silicate paint over the existing lime paint after a thorough brushing? Or would the lime paint need to be mostly removed first for the silicate paint to adhere properly?
Perhaps some of you have experience or expertise on this topic 🙂
Best regards from Hannover,
Hauke
