ᐅ Using Topsoil as a Base for a Terrace?

Hello,

I am planning to build a wooden deck soon and want to use leftover topsoil as the base. My plan is to simply compact the topsoil with a plate compactor and then place the deck on top. Is this feasible, or is topsoil unsuitable as a base material?

I thought the same, just use the topsoil as a base. That didn’t work, and the weeds grew like crazy. So we took the slabs off again, removed the topsoil, and then added gravel. It holds better now, and the weeds are no longer visible.

That is exactly the right solution. I had planned the same but wasn’t able to manage it. As an addition, I applied basalt 0/32.

Spring will be coming soon again.
