Hello everyone,

Our house build includes a conduit for a photovoltaic system. We don’t know yet if or when we will actually install such a system. We just thought it can’t hurt to have it.

Would you have the conduit installed all the way through the roof now (since it’s included in the price), or only up to under the roof and then create the roof penetration later when the system is actually going to be installed?

Many thanks,
Oliver

Hmm, do you mean whether it should go through the bricks already? If the bricks are included in the price, I would at least have them delivered... they are not cheap... otherwise, just let the conduit end inside the rafter area.

A few pieces of information are missing, such as the roof type.

have the roof tiles handed over and end under the roof. If you want to go through, theoretically "only" the one roof tile would need to be replaced.
And, of course, the likelihood of the expansion is crucial. If it is rather unlikely to happen within the next 10 years, there is no reason to go through the roof. Any opening in the roof is a potential source of leakage.

We also installed a 50mm (2 inch) empty conduit ourselves from the attic to the utility room on the ground floor. It will be much more difficult to pull cables there later once everything is finished.

Hello,

In my opinion, this decision also depends on whether the entire roof will be insulated and the space below it converted.

If that is the case, I would have the conduit installed through the roof right away – however, if the (possible) attic remains uninsulated, I recommend ending the conduit under the roof and having the appropriate roof tile for the penetration provided.

Best regards,

Dirk
