Hi,

The parquet floor in my living room is sealed but already somewhat worn. I wanted to ask if it is generally possible to sand a sealed parquet floor?

Best regards,
Mara 😕

Hi!

As far as I know, this is already possible, but it will need to be resealed afterwards. This can potentially become expensive, depending on the size of the area to be treated. In some cases, it might be almost cheaper to install new flooring. There is now so-called luxury laminate, which is much more durable than a mid-range hardwood floor. It also looks very elegant.

Hi,

Of course, it is possible to sand a parquet floor even if it is sealed. After sanding, you just need to reseal it. It’s not a very difficult task. You can rent the machine at a hardware store by leaving a deposit and paying a rental fee, so you don’t have to buy one yourself. We finished very quickly.

How much can sealing like this cost, let's say per m² (per square meter)? We want to install real hardwood flooring, and I’ve heard that to be really sure, it should be sealed again afterwards.

With our current hardwood floor, I’ve already noticed many warps because as soon as it gets a bit damp, the floorboards lift! 😡

You can sand the parquet floor if you want to refinish it. There are machines available for rent at specialty stores or home improvement centers. However, you need to be careful not to remove too much material, as the surface will become too thin. You can only sand it a few times before the floor is damaged beyond repair.
