It’s not just about speed for me, but also about completing the build with as few errors and as little stress as possible. I have assembled this bookshelf before, but this time I don’t have much time and want to avoid unnecessary mistakes, such as incorrectly installed wall anchors or misunderstood assembly steps.
I’m therefore interested in proven tips, tricks, or special tools that have helped you assemble a Billy bookshelf faster and with fewer issues. I would recommend first systematically sorting all the parts and collecting all screws and wall plugs in small containers. This will help you avoid long searches during assembly.
Secondly, use a cordless drill with the appropriate bit, which saves a lot of time compared to a screwdriver.
And very importantly: read the instructions all the way through before you start – this will help you avoid mistakes.

- Allow enough time: it’s better to work slowly and carefully than to rush and assemble parts incorrectly.
- Sort the screws and parts not only by size but also by function. Some look similar but have different lengths or diameters.
- A tape measure and a small square can help align the shelf properly before you fasten everything permanently.
- If possible, having someone to hold parts or assist with preparation can greatly shorten the assembly time.
- Pay attention to the sequence of assembly steps in the instructions – don’t skip any steps, even if they seem unimportant.
