Hello!

I have searched online a few times but couldn’t find any good information. So, I’m asking here in the forum. 🙂

I want to apply bark mulch under my hornbeam hedge to prevent weeds from growing there.

My research showed that there are
  • coarse and fine,
  • treated and untreated,
  • screened and unscreened,
  • pine, spruce, and cedar bark mulches.
Apart from the fact that pine bark mulch decomposes more slowly but is significantly more expensive, and my assumption that coarser mulch decomposes more slowly than finer mulch, I haven’t been able to find anything else.

Could someone explain the properties of these different types to me?

Thanks in advance!

Do whatever you think is best. It doesn’t matter!!! But don’t assume you’re free of weeds.

Lay down landscaping fabric and cover it with gravel or any type of bark mulch, and you're done.
