Hello everyone,
Some time ago, I bought a Billy shelf unit with a laminated surface and would like to care for it in the best possible way without damaging the laminate or leaving unpleasant residues.
My question is: Are there any proven tips or specific care instructions that work particularly well for Billy shelves with laminated surfaces?
I am especially interested in which cleaning products are recommended, whether harsh substances should be avoided, and the best way to remove dust and light dirt without affecting the surface.
I would appreciate any helpful advice or personal experiences!

@RENMA, the idea of using a plastic cleaner sounds interesting. Do you have any specific product recommendations? Or would a regular furniture cleaner be sufficient?
Also, the warning about waxes or oils is new to me and important. Do you think using a little water and vinegar could be risky? I have often heard that vinegar cleans dirt effectively, but I am almost certain it could damage the film.

I completely agree with the caution regarding acidic, vinegar-based cleaners. The film is a plastic material that can be damaged by acids.
If stains from coffee or similar liquids do not come off, it’s better to use a soft sponge and a mild soap solution. For occasional deeper cleaning, there are special film cleaners available, for example, polymer-based ones, which are not harmful and also help with maintenance.
If interested, I could add a list of recommended products here.

By the way, I'm wondering: Is it advisable to occasionally dry polish the foil with a microfiber cloth to avoid any lingering residue?
Or would you consider that unnecessary?

After cleaning with moisture, gently polishing the surface with a dry, soft microfiber cloth is definitely advisable. This removes any remaining moisture and prevents streaks.
Regarding recommended products: Mild soap solutions, as mentioned earlier, are often sufficient. For tougher dirt, plastic cleaners from brands like "Pronto" or "Mellerud" (specifically for plastic surfaces) can be used, but you should first test on an inconspicuous area.
Avoid vinegar or alcohol-based products to protect the film and the material beneath it.
I also recommend wiping dust regularly, as abrasion from dirt particles is a common cause of dull spots.
