Hello everyone, I have recently been researching the materials used in the IKEA Brimnes furniture series, mainly due to health concerns I came across online. Specifically, I am interested in whether there are any scientifically or health-related risks associated with the materials used in BRIMNES products, such as particleboard and coatings. I am particularly concerned about the impact on indoor air quality and possible emissions of harmful substances (e.g., formaldehyde or plasticizers). Does anyone have reliable information or experience regarding this? Thanks in advance!

To answer the question: There is no evidence of a direct health risk from Brimnes materials. However, if you are sensitive, it is advisable to ventilate regularly and avoid moisture on the surfaces.

I agree, pollutants are limited according to the E1 standard. With new furniture, just air it out once, then there are no risks.

I would like to add that the perception of odors or irritations is very individual. Some people are more sensitive to volatile organic compounds (VOCs), which may be emitted in very low amounts from furniture like BRIMNES, but these levels are usually well below those considered harmful to health. If there are any concerns, an air quality monitor can be helpful. It is also important not to assemble the furniture in very small, poorly ventilated rooms, but to ensure fresh air circulation. Overall, there is no evidence of serious health risks, although regular ventilation is definitely recommended.
