So the plans are basically finalized...

Now the only question is which heating system to choose. My father owns a plumbing supply business (I get everything below purchase price), so I really want to pick something good for the future!

Geothermal?

Solar?

Wood?

Gas?

I’m completely undecided and would appreciate any advice!

Hello,
if you already have the choice, I would go for solar and geothermal energy. Looking at the trends, it’s clear that gas and similar sources are becoming more expensive. The sun and the heat from the earth won’t get more expensive.

I would definitely lean towards geothermal energy; the system is really brilliant, but quite expensive to install. Depending on which system you choose, you can expect to spend several thousand dollars. After all, drilling is required first, and a heat pump needs to be purchased. However, you can reduce your heating costs by up to 70%, which is quite significant! 😉

But I have high electricity costs because of the heat pump, right?

What do I need to budget? $15,000?

Hi.
Definitely avoid oil heating; it costs less initially but much more later on. I recommend a combination of geothermal energy and wood pellets.

Anything that doesn’t generate a bill is good for the future, such as solar and geothermal energy. Although the initial investment is still quite expensive, you can face price increases calmly. It will never affect you, and your house will still stay warm.
