Hello,
is it possible to generally say whether and how much additional cost occurs if, for a single-family house, you use a 30cm (12 inch) YTONG (aerated concrete) block instead of a 24cm (9.5 inch) one? According to the YTONG price list, the required number of blocks is the same for both—6.7 pieces per m² (6.7 pieces per 10.8 ft²)—and the price is also the same. In our case, it was calculated as a special feature costing 3,500 EUR, and I am curious whether this is justified. The house has 2 full stories with approximately 11 x 9 m (36 x 30 ft) of external dimensions.
Thank you very much

Doesn’t make much difference, right? ;-)… especially if the contract has already been signed.
Look at it from a different perspective: not "is the material more expensive," but rather "does it make the house more valuable to me."
Just like when buying a car, many companies probably earn good margins on special requests – here, you’re not asking "do the production costs go up by 150 € (about 160 USD) because the cornering light turns on" (they don’t), but instead "do I want this feature, and is it worth the extra cost to me."
It just shouldn’t turn into a form of blackmail…
