ᐅ 4 hours of labor to plaster a door frame?!

Hello everyone,

I’d like to ask for your professional opinion again!

My new build is finally completed, and I had the plasterer on site plaster the inside of one door frame (just the interior part where the frame would normally sit). There is no door frame installed there because it is supposed to be an open passageway. It’s a standard-sized opening, no custom dimensions.

The plasterer now sent me a bill for 4 skilled worker hours — that seems a bit high to me. It’s not really about the amount but the principle, as I’ve already felt taken advantage of several times during this build, including by this plasterer.

What do you think? Is this a realistic charge?

Thanks in advance! 🙂

It also depends on the door. In the case of an invisible door

Door? – we are actually talking about a doorless passage – in that sense, the door is completely invisible ;-)

I agree with both previous comments: two hours if it’s a separately listed but done together task, four hours if they come out separately just for that. So, I’d see a reasonable range between a minimum of 2 hours without and a maximum of 4 hours with setup time.

Thanks for your response! The plasterers were already on site and plastered the elevator, so no travel time or anything like that was involved. They did it on the side – and that’s why 4 hours for plastering a single door frame seemed like a lot to me.

I’m not trying to haggle over every dollar, for heaven’s sake – if it’s justified, it’s justified. But they always seem to think a woman is easier to take advantage of.

So if you were there anyway, 4 hours is a bit too much. 2 hours would have been enough. They also try to squeeze out every last dollar.
