Hello,

we have purchased an older semi-detached house. According to the energy consultant, the sloping ceilings on the upper floor (bedroom, children's rooms, etc.) need to be built up by 12 to 14 cm (5 to 6 inches) to add additional insulation.

Currently, the rafters are 14 cm (5.5 inches) thick with 12 cm (5 inches) of insulation.

The idea of doubling the thickness of the beams by that amount again doesn’t seem feasible, does it?

Does anyone have any ideas or suggestions?
