Hello,

we are currently planning a bungalow, approximately 15 meters (49 feet) long and 10 meters (33 feet) wide.

Does anyone know which roof type is generally the most cost-effective for everything above the ceiling plate? For example, a gable roof or a hip roof? Solar panels or similar are not an issue on the roof.
The attic would be used, as commonly done, as storage space and to house a mechanical ventilation system with heat recovery.

Best regards

A hipped roof will definitely be more expensive because it involves a more complex construction compared to a gable roof. However, it also looks better. Most bungalows typically have a gable roof.

Don’t most bungalows usually have a hipped roof or a variation of a hipped roof with a ridge, unless the building is square or L-shaped?

That's true, when I drive through new housing developments, most have a gable roof, you're right... I had only considered the corresponding rising walls in terms of costs, but when I think about how much work is involved with cutting and so on for the hip roof and the additional facing bricks...

Shed roof, flat roof... everything is possible, nothing is mandatory 😉 it also depends on the building plan / planning permission.

I believe that aesthetically, the only roof style that still looks reasonably good on a bungalow is a low-pitched hipped roof or a pyramid roof.
