We were offered a maintenance contract for the temporary power distribution box. The maintenance is supposed to be carried out monthly, and an inspection report will be created. Cost per month: 142.80€.

Is such a maintenance contract necessary?

It is, of course, undeniable that a residual current device (RCD) should be tested for proper function every month. However, nobody actually does this. In the event of an accident, though, it can have serious consequences if there is a fault in the RCD that could have been detected through testing.

I actually had a faulty RCD six months after moving in, which I found by pressing the test button. My electrician was quite surprised—both at the fault and that I had pressed the button. It was, of course, replaced afterwards.

I found the sticker that the original poster photographed on the temporary power supply box quite interesting. It looks like it was regularly "serviced." All the previous homeowners seem to have paid for that monthly without any concerns?

Yes, the previous homeowner seems to have accepted it. 😱

I'm opting out and will not sign.

That you would have to expect other oddities from a contractor who offers you a stairwell window with a parapet height no longer allowed even in prisons doesn’t really surprise me ;-)
By the way, where did you get him from (and above all: have you ever asked if he’s a butcher)? *LOL* *SCNR*

Who pays the rental fee, if I may ask?
I also think the maintenance contract is a bit ridiculous, but it’s hard to deny that normally the client has to pay the rental fee…

I pay the rent. Yesterday, I sent a polite email in which I initially declined.
