On our property, there is an old pump cellar that has not been used for a long time. Together with our neighbors, we want to convert it into a root cellar. We have been thinking about how to design the entrance. So, I sat down again with Sweet Home 3D and visualized our ideas.

Brilliant. I will eventually use the old basement for storage.
I would plan a proper staircase as shown in the drawing.

Our earth cellar is taking shape… 🙂

The “roof” consists of three precast concrete hollow core slabs, and the steps are made from horizontally laid lawn edging stones.

Underground entrance made of concrete blocks in an earth mound, open, fields and houses in the background.

Cellar entrance made of concrete blocks with wooden beam bridge over construction pit.

Foundation made of gray concrete blocks in construction pit; wooden beams over walls, landscape in the background.

Concrete stairway down into earth embankment; blocks stacked at the top, fence and fields in the background.

Curious to see how satisfied you are with the storage. If it really works well, I might secure and clear out our old above-ground cellar to make it mouse-proof and mouse-free for use.

Pharaoh’s tomb. 🙂
I would also add a few sphinxes.

Cool idea and nice implementation.

What do you do about rain? Can the rainwater drain away at the bottom somehow? Or will there be additional roofing added?
