Hello,

due to our building plans for our angled bungalow, we are planning a garage measuring 6x9 meters (20x30 feet), but we tend to position the garage about 2 meters (6.5 feet) away from the house rather than directly attached.

On the opposite side at the same level, to the left of the bungalow, there are guest rooms, a utility room, and a living room.

We just wanted to gather some opinions on this garage situation. So, we are leaning towards not attaching the garage to the house, but rather placing it about 2 meters (6.5 feet) apart.

How have you handled the garage placement in your projects?

Without a site plan and the house location shown on it, a well-founded answer is unfortunately not possible.

Just one thing: garages also have wall thickness. Is the 6m (20 feet) measurement the interior dimension? Otherwise, it might be too tight for two cars.

Here in Brandenburg, there was, among other things, a small but important regulation (according to the architect). If the garage is NOT directly attached to the house, fire protection elements must be installed at the nearest opening on the house (window/door etc.) within a straight-line distance of 5m (16 feet) or less. If the garage is directly attached to the house, then only the door connecting the two needs to have these elements (if such a connection is planned). This is regardless of the site plan. PS: our garage is directly attached to the house.

Just because the garage is attached to the house doesn’t mean it has to be connected internally. We had that once, but we don’t need it anymore.

Thank you. We will have the garage built 2 meters (6.5 feet) to the left of the house. We don’t find it very appealing right next to the house.

But 6 x 9 meters (20 x 30 feet) should be enough for two cars, right?
