ᐅ Preparing for a Power Outage

The weather is expected to turn quite unpleasant, and in some areas, ice rain could actually cause a few power poles to topple. I don’t think this will happen, but just for fun, here’s a question:

How do you prepare for a 48-hour power outage at -5 to -10°C (23 to 14°F)?

It never hurts to think about this kind of situation, even if it’s unlikely.

and how do you heat it up?
I have a gas grill outside and/or a fireplace inside the house and/or a fire bowl in the garden 😉

Well, you should always be prepared for at least a one-week blackout. A gas stove, gas grill, and a few bottles of alcohol. Otherwise, just keep an emergency food supply. Also, wood and similar materials.

Simply put meat and frozen goods outside in the snow.

Sure, I’ve stocked up on vodka, some adult magazines, and Viagra. Lockout and lockdown can come.

Enough wood stored in the cabin and beside the fireplace. Plus two dozen candles ... :p

(... and mulled wine!)

Living room with a burning wood stove, stack of firewood, bookshelf, and warmly glowing table lantern.

Today at midnight we had a power outage – luckily only for 10 seconds.

Yes, it’s a bit concerning... we have a fireplace and a gas grill outside. We could also go to the caravan, which is charged and therefore self-sufficient :p
But I would prefer not to have to try that.

Set the heating rod to "from -12 degrees Celsius (10°F)" or higher.
