ᐅ Looking for Recommendations on "Fascias" – Nostalgic Charm

Since we have decided, contrary to our original plans, to build without shutters for various reasons, we would like to add window and patio door trim to give the house a somewhat “old-fashioned,” or nostalgic, appearance. Has anyone here added trim to their house and can share practical tips on what to watch out for?

Has anyone in the forum painted their trim themselves? (This question is less important, as we will probably order the trim pre-made.)

Are there any general recommendations on how to give our house a nostalgic charm without causing costs to skyrocket?

That looks really nice, @Steffi33. Did I understand correctly that these are not “true” divided-light windows? Could you share a photo of the inside view? That would be great. I grew up with Danish wooden divided-light windows and I’m usually visually disappointed by the various non-continuous muntins (or similar divisions) when seen from the inside.

Yes, these are real muntins. Only the capitals and decorative trims are glued on the outside. You can probably do this yourself, as the decorative profiles are available for purchase. From the inside, the windows are rather simple.

Thanks for the pictures! And as for being unspectacular – they actually look really nice. I feel more convinced once again that they probably need to be real muntins. I’ll also remember the capitals. Thanks! (And now back to the topic of reveals, sorry.)

It wasn’t just about chamfers, but about all the ways to give a house a nostalgic touch. The idea with the capitals was a great suggestion.
