Since we have decided, contrary to our original plans, to build without shutters for various reasons, we would like to add window and patio door trim to give the house a somewhat “old-fashioned,” or nostalgic, appearance. Has anyone here added trim to their house and can share practical tips on what to watch out for?
Has anyone in the forum painted their trim themselves? (This question is less important, as we will probably order the trim pre-made.)
Are there any general recommendations on how to give our house a nostalgic charm without causing costs to skyrocket?

Hello,
we also considered adding trim bands (fascias) to our house. Why shouldn't they be just painted on?
We are also planning to have (modern) paneled interior doors and kitchen cabinet fronts, but we will probably skip that for the front door and divided-light windows. We hope to achieve a good mix of classic, country house, and modern styles.

However, the reveals belong "to the inside," otherwise they would be pilasters (-;
Please make sure they are thicker at the bottom of the window so that it
looks right, especially since the windowsill is usually still in between...The reveals are supposed to be the same width/thickness at the window height and not getting wider towards the bottom, right?
I think we are talking about different things here.... The bottom edge / rebate needs to be wider with the standard aluminum windowsill... if it is the same width as on the left, right, and top, but the windowsill visually covers 3cm (1.2 inches) of the 8cm (3.1 inches), it looks awkward.
