Hello everyone!

Have you chosen a security key for your front door or side entrance door? Or did you go with a standard, regular key?

What do you mean by "security key"? A security lock with a profile cylinder has been standard for ages; skeleton keys haven't been used for new installations since I was a child.

Profile cylinders are by no means the standard!
I asked around among our acquaintances and neighbors. 90% of people have basic cylinder keys.

If neighbors can be so easily broken into, you have nothing to worry about. You don’t need to run faster than a hungry lion if your neighbor is slower than you.

I would be interested in seeing statistics on how many break-ins occur through the front door. The weak points are probably somewhere else.

I'm curious to see when we will first have break-ins through aerated concrete walls instead of the secured windows and doors.

I couldn’t help but laugh when I read about the aerated concrete.

In theory, we wouldn’t even need to lock our front door...

At least not when our guardian is inside the house.

Good question!
Burglars break in where it’s easiest. Common targets are patio doors, tilted windows, and basement windows. Front doors can also be opened quickly if they have the wrong lock—either using lock picks (cheap cylinder) or by “pulling” the cylinder, which breaks at its weakest point (no anti-pull protection). Breaking windows is also a popular method but tends to be too noisy. Glass cutters are used as well, but usually by professionals who carefully select their targets.
In Cologne, there is a master locksmith who, as a side job, offers door opening services for a small fee and can open over 90% of locks without damage.
