We are currently building a single-family house and had the windows installed yesterday. Now we have noticed that there are different surface textures. Our window installer never mentioned or showed us this. We wanted smooth anthracite-colored uPVC windows. We also showed photos of how they should look on the house (similar to aluminum windows). Now the windows are installed, and we have grainy uPVC windows with frames that are not angular but rather rounded. It looks terrible. We trusted the window installer because he is my grandfather. He gave completely wrong advice, and now we are left very disappointed. It doesn’t matter to me whether it’s family or not. We are paying a very high price for something we never wanted.

We build in a way that allows us to handle everything ourselves. We select the professionals for each trade on our own. While we don’t assist with the work directly, we take care of everything else.

Ok, then you will have to resolve this within the family. Trying to claim this through insurance will likely not work, as it is not a technical defect. Just because you don’t like it doesn’t count at all in this case, especially if you only have that one sheet as a "quote/scope of work."

Bad luck, but it is what it is!

Usually, even more can go wrong with individual contracting.

It's like ordering a car: you want a red one with four wheels. Whether you end up with an Audi or a Fiat is anyone's guess...

I often get the feeling that you’re a bit schadenfreude. Something can always go wrong; I know people who hired a good construction company and a competent site manager, and still experienced problems.

I don't detect any Schadenfreude here. It’s just an unfortunate situation, but it probably happens quite often. There’s not much to say about it.

It’s just an unfortunate situation, but it probably happens more often than you think—what else is there to say.

So what is the original poster supposed to do with that ?!
