Just recently, someone asked me about our monolithic construction using only 24 cm (9.5 inches) aerated concrete blocks (without underfloor heating, small solar thermal system, 148 sqm (1594 sq ft)) and how high our heating costs are. I had estimated up to 1600 euros because consumption is supposed to be higher during the first years in a new building.
And just now I saw that we used less than 10,000 kWh last year, which is about 900 euros below my estimate.

We always keep it pretty warm and only installed electric programmable thermostats 4 weeks ago.

What are your energy consumption figures?
I can’t really explain why ours is so low.

Incidentally, we never had any problems with high indoor humidity. It has been normal from the start.

Best regards

So with 1,600€ the estimate seems quite high... what KfW standard do you have?

For example, we have 250m2 (2,690 sq ft) of heated area and about 80 euros per month including hot water, with KfW 70.

We have the Energy Saving Ordinance 2016, which I believe also corresponds to KfW 70.

Yes, maybe the estimate was calculated too conservatively. I tried to get an idea beforehand and rarely read about consumption below 15,000 kWh. Since our wall thickness is quite thin and it’s a new build, I didn’t want to be unpleasantly surprised.

But maybe you just come across cases online much more often where the consumption is abnormally high...

May I ask which 24 cm (9.5 inches) aerated concrete blocks you used? It’s surprising that you met the energy saving regulations with those. Were there any other measures taken?

We have a 42.5cm (17 inch) Ytong wall, and the monthly gas payment has stabilized at €49 per month for the past two years. The house is 155m² (1,669 sq ft) including a central ventilation system. Except for the bedrooms, the indoor temperature is around 21.5 to 22 degrees Celsius (71 to 72°F).

Glad to see someone showing again that gas [currently] is an affordable heating and hot water solution.

For 160sqm (1722 sq ft) of heating and hot water, we pay around €500-600 per year. Don’t ask me now about the kWh number...
