And why pay for Q4 when you end up covering it anyway?

What does that have to do with Q4??

We just want to install a 150g painter’s fleece and I wanted the surface to be as smooth as possible. But it can always happen that the filler sinks in places; if the entire surface is treated evenly, any settling will be consistent. At my friend’s place, a full Q4 finish was sprayed… looks great.
Q4 sprayed costs €6.50 per m² (0.6 square feet), sanding is extra.

I also don’t see the point in waiting until Q4 to apply the filler and then putting fleece over it... you can achieve the same result with Q2.

Q4 is the highest quality level to achieve an almost perfect exposed plaster finish and involves significant effort due to sanding, so it is correspondingly more expensive. If you plan to apply fleece anyway, you could have saved the extra cost of Q3 or even Q2.

I was aware that Q4 is the highest quality level.

It was important to me that everything be fully skimmed and nicely smooth. Our plaster underneath was good but still somewhat uneven in places, especially when viewed with oblique light in the evening. Because of that, the painter recommended going for Q4 since he knows me and thought I wouldn’t be satisfied with just Q3 in the end. The total price for the painting was also below the estimated budget, so we are proceeding with this approach for the house. I have seen the results elsewhere and believe it will look good.

I don’t think so; although, of course, it partly depends on the fleece (thickness, smoothness).
