Hello dear forum members,

the title basically says it all.
We are building a KfW 70 house and have decided to install a ventilation system with heat recovery for comfort reasons. Are we required to carry out a blower door test? Or should we do one in order to properly adjust the ventilation system?

We hadn’t considered this so far. At the beginning, we were not even sure if we would install a ventilation system at all.

Since we are subcontracting everything ourselves, the testing is not included for us either; we have to commission and pay for it separately.

By the way, the ventilation settings have nothing to do with the test... only different parameters related to ventilation apply during the test...

If a ventilation system is planned and funding is to be applied for, a blower door test is mandatory as proof of airtightness.

In my opinion, a clearer way to put it is: for a ventilation system to operate properly and efficiently, higher standards for the building’s airtightness must be met.

That sounds better

Isn’t the ventilation system (BDT) already mandatory in KFW-certified houses?
