Until recently, I had no idea this was possible, but since I learned that wooden treads can be installed on a concrete staircase, I have become quite interested in this idea.

Specifically, it is about a concrete staircase with 14 steps, quarter-turn.

We definitely cannot do this ourselves.

What cost range would you estimate for this?

We basically have the same staircase as Otus, but it’s fully enclosed within walls.

Since the carpenter’s prices were unrealistically high, we decided to install the cladding ourselves in a folded wood style.

For those interested:

You work from the bottom up and attach an inverted “L” shape, glued with dowels, to three thick wood screws (two at the front of the tread, one centered at the back). This allows you to level the step directly using a spirit level. Once the step fits, we sprayed expanding foam around the frame to prevent hollow sounds or bouncing on the screws later on. Then we moved on to the next inverted “L.”
At the end, the staircase was lightly sanded and oiled.

Material: either ordered from a carpenter or, as we did, purchased walnut countertops on sale at OBI with a cutting service for the treads and risers. At home, we routed the dowel holders.

All in all, including foam, screws, and wood, the entire cladding cost 589 EUR (countertops were on sale ).

I can share pictures if needed.
