Hello,
I am currently renovating an inherited house and have encountered a problem. The last wooden step leading to the upper floor is worn unevenly. On the left side, it is almost flush, about 3 mm (1/8 inch) lower than the upper floor covering, while on the right side it drops by up to 20 mm (3/4 inch). The staircase is stained mahogany. I just can’t find a suitable solution.
My latest idea was to attach a horizontal wooden strip in front of the step and use a leveling compound to even it out. Then I would fix a as thin as possible wooden board on the step and stain it to match. Is something like this feasible, and if so, which materials would you recommend?
Thank you.
Best regards,
Rudolf

If in doubt, consult a staircase specialist who can manufacture a new step and install it immediately.
