Hello everyone,

I have read that for a hip roof with a roof pitch lower than 22 degrees, a substructure is necessary due to snow load and other factors.

Has anyone had experience with the additional costs this might involve financially (house 10 x 11 meters (33 x 36 feet))? The visually ideal roof pitch would be between 15 and 18 degrees.

Best regards

Why is 15–18 degrees considered optimal?

We have reduced it to 25 degrees, which is the minimum according to BB. From below, you can't see a difference anyway. The advantage is that you can still use the attic for storing boxes and such.

And it’s not just the snow load that’s an issue—many roof tiles only work properly with slopes greater than 22 degrees.
