Hello,

we are planning to move into our own home in April. Although we have a cable connection (Unitymedia), we want to watch TV via a satellite dish.
Our electrician said that if there is still some budget left, definitely go for a Kathrein system.
Our local small specialist retailer said that Kathrein is no longer worth the high price and recommended the Dur-Line brand instead.

What have you installed?
Is the brand still really important today when buying/installing satellite equipment?
What diameter do you have?

Thank you very much!

I installed durline two weeks ago; it made a very good impression.

WiSi Orbit. So. The TV is connected. Is there picture? Yes. Sound? Yes. And it’s in color too. What more could you want?

Well, a satellite system includes more than just the dish. It also involves the LNB and, if necessary, a multiswitch.
As for the size of the dish: bigger is better! As long as it doesn’t look bad and isn’t installed in a wind-exposed location.

Otherwise, I have installed: a Fuba 85cm (33 inch) dish, TechniSAT LNB, and switch.

No Kathrein. It doesn’t add any value.
But also not a €10 (about $11) dish. A few affordable brands have already been mentioned.

However, you will also hear opposing opinions here. It’s like BSH vs. Miele.

Choose something from the mid-price range. The LNB and a sturdy mast are more important for good reception. Brand names don't really matter much in this area.
