Good morning,

a building consultant told me that a utility room must always have a window, regardless of whether there is a door or not.

What are the legal requirements?

Thank you very much

There must be ventilation.

This does not necessarily have to be a window.

This is not meant to be provocative, but is that stated anywhere? It is still not too late for our utility room (without a window).

A controlled residential ventilation system with exhaust in the utility room is installed, and fresh air supply is provided via the door threshold. Formally, this should be fine, but in case of a power outage, for example, manual ventilation is not possible.

We also have no window. It is wedged between the slope and the garage.
There is exhaust air via the mechanical ventilation system, similar to Mottenhausen.

Um, unfortunately I can’t find a single word about the ventilation of a utility room (HAR) in DIN 18 012. Did I overlook it? WHERE EXACTLY is it stated?

Under
5.5.2 Utility Room
5.5.2.1 General

there are various structural requirements, but nothing about ventilation.

If, instead of a room, only a:

5.5.4 Utility Niche

is present, there are specifications regarding the width of the door gap as ventilation.

Under

5.4.2 Gas

it is also stated that the gas pipeline feed must be vented: so the underground conduit pipe must be vented with a T-junction, preferably just outside the building.

That’s all DIN 18012:2018-04 says on the topic of ventilation. This should be the latest version, as I can’t access a newer one via Perinorm.
