Hello, we had a damaged wastewater pipe inside the wall between the kitchen and dining room. The coupling of the wastewater pipe was cracked and leaked slowly over months. The contractors broke open the wall from the dining room side and installed a new wastewater pipe. Now, wastewater pipes and heating pipes are lying directly exposed next to each other in the opened section.

The old insulation was made of clay.

The plasterer simply attached a mesh board over the opening and plastered it. He did not fill the cavity with any insulation.

On the kitchen side, there is still a hole around the drain pipe that he has not closed yet. Looking inside this hole, you can see significant condensation forming on the heating pipes and drain pipes.

Is this normal? Should the cavity be refilled with insulation material to prevent condensation and corrosion of the heating pipes? (These pipes have already been damaged due to the old water leak.)

What would be the best way to address this with the contractor? Should he fill the cavity with insulation? If so, what type would be suitable?

Thank you.
