ᐅ Visiting a Show Home Park – Helpful or Not?

We received approval for our plot today :-)!

I've been thinking about house types, floor plans, and so on for weeks. I thought it might be helpful to visit a show home village. Simply to get ideas and inspiration, and to find out what we like and don’t like. We don’t want to build a display or prefab house; I just thought visiting could spark some ideas.

Now I’ve looked for show home villages in NRW, and there aren’t many. Is it worth visiting a place with about 20 houses? What benefit does it bring if we’re not specifically interested in the suppliers? Would that just be a waste of time, and would it be better to keep searching online for floor plans and eventually get some nice drawings done by an architect?

How did you gather information and plan your build?
Looking forward to your input!

Hello everyone,

We have already visited the model home park in Fellbach twice, and I can highly recommend it. Each house has its own unique features, allowing you to see what you like and what you don’t. I would suggest looking at all the floor plans of the houses in the park online beforehand and possibly printing them out. We found that some houses we didn’t like, even though we found the floor plan very interesting, and vice versa. If we decide to build a house, we will definitely visit the exhibition again to take a closer look at what appeals to us and what doesn’t.

We visited Mülheim Kärlich, and I was quite disappointed.

In one house, there was the idea of placing an L-shaped sofa across a square room without any way to watch the nonexistent TV.
In another house, the bathtub was positioned in the middle of the room, with double sinks attached to this "island." It looked great but had the drawback that no mirror could be installed.

I couldn’t really get any inspiration there, but for example, I measured tiled showers to get a better sense of size, so that was okay.

So far, I’ve found my conversations with friends who have recently built their homes much more valuable for generating ideas.

Thank you for your replies.
We will definitely start working on it soon, since you can get a lot of valuable ideas here. Even learning what you don’t like often helps a lot. The tip about the floor plans is great.

How many houses do people usually manage to visit on average during one visit?

Unfortunately, not many in our circle of friends have built a house yet, so we need to find information elsewhere.

I think Mülheim Kärlich is really bad. In my opinion, most of the houses there should be demolished.
Bad Vilbel is great, and Frechen and Mannheim as well. I don’t know any others. The latter definitely are worth it.

We were in Poing and felt completely overwhelmed..... It didn’t help us at all. You see so much. But then again, nothing really.

So, on Sunday we will drive to Wuppertal and take a look around. We are seeking inspiration, want to get a sense of scale, and see what is possible and available in modern building. We are very excited.
