ᐅ Two driveways – access path for guests – route layout

Hello, my property has two access points. One is a gravel driveway that only I am allowed to use, and the other is a second traffic area connected to a public road. I also own this second traffic area. The official access, especially for guests, is intended to be via this private traffic area. I have been thinking a lot about the pathway layout. The architect recommends going all the way around the house (see attached image, red pathway). However, I often need to go to the public road via the traffic area myself, for example, to take out the trash bins (which are located in the outbuilding shown on the left) or to empty the mailbox. The blue access path seems more practical to me. I am torn between the two. Do you have any other ideas for the pathway layout?

By the way, south is to the right, west is at the bottom of the image. The distance to the western property boundary from the house is about 6 m (20 feet), and from the end of the terrace to the western boundary about 2–3 m (6.5–10 feet).

Site plan: second access (gravel driveway), red outline, blue access path, terrace.

and no convenient step onto your terrace, suddenly your mother-in-law from a visit is sitting there because she discovered your shade in the scorching heat

The motivation is not entirely clear to me: do you want to spare your visitors’ leather soles from the gravel path, or do you have a highly specific personal right of way for this path that does not apply to visitors?

Backdoors are always better the fewer people know about them.

The reason is that the city requires the site access to be made from the official road. This is where my house number will be displayed, so that it can be found by, for example, postal workers, guests who are not familiar with the local area, ambulances, fire trucks, and so on. Anyone familiar with the area probably wouldn’t come from this direction. I also plan to create parking spaces on the roadway, arranged so that a pedestrian walkway remains alongside for the people mentioned above. But I agree with you that most people will not come from there, but rather via the gravel driveway.

Not in my case, because I would never claim that. I actually consider the opposite more likely: that most people will arrive via the address path. Show your property in more detail and ask the other participants for suggestions on how to position the ensemble more effectively. It seems to me that a planner who admires Pyrrhus as a great general is at work here.

Do I understand correctly that you want to block the official emergency access route with parking spaces? Bad idea...

Guests can wait one behind the other in the driveway.

Hello,
well, those are luxury problems—make the driveway however you like.
Guests can also park on the street.
I already feel generous having planned a guest room and an additional shower in the guest bathroom,
but an extra driveway is going a bit too far for me...
Best regards, Olli
