ᐅ Bathroom Tiling Work – Execution Rather Poor – Appearance

Hello forum community,

I’m not sure if this is just complaining at a high level or justified frustration.
We are only partly satisfied with the tile installer’s workmanship from the contractor.

Here are three examples:

1. Toilet fixture pre-wall corner with Jolie trim strip is untidy

2. Generally, corners with Jolie finishing strips are untidy

3. Decorative tiles are frayed/chipped when cut

A credit is one thing, repairs another. However, we are sure that the tile installers have already done their best here.

Does it even make sense to raise any complaints, or is everything within the so-called “tolerance range”?

Good luck

The risk exists 😉

I find this case challenging. Viewed individually, these are "minor issues," but collectively they add up, and that would probably bother me overall. You always end up noticing them. It might be that the small cutouts make it look especially dramatic, but the workmanship wasn’t particularly good. I’m keeping my fingers crossed that replacing the track will solve the main problem.

Otherwise, I also notice in myself that when it comes to my own house, I pay much closer attention. When I rented for the past 15 years, I didn’t examine every corner and edge in the bathroom so closely. In my own bathroom, I have even noticed tiny chips on a tile. At first, I wanted to be annoyed about it, but then I realized that the chip blends so invisibly into the tile’s design that it almost made me smile.

I quickly found a photo from our construction pictures. Our bathtub has many corners and edges and, accordingly, many Jolly trim rails, and in direct comparison, I think you can clearly see the difference in quality of the workmanship.

Modern bathtub with beige tiles, handheld shower, by the window, wooden floor.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen such a massive bathtub structure :p

@ypg is right that we are particularly meticulous in Germany. Interestingly, at the same time, we expect discount prices.
What you showed would bother me (I’m “German” in that sense) and I would have it corrected. However, if you accepted a super bargain, take that into account in how you deal with your tiler. If they are truly skilled, they should be able to fix it.

Well, in the overall picture you usually don’t notice small details that aren’t visible from the full perspective anyway 😉

Yeah, and such balanced, harmoniously coordinated corners 😎

I love it! :P
But in real life, it doesn’t seem that bulky, see below. 😀

Actually, it’s symmetrical, but when you zoom out as far as possible with an ultra-wide-angle lens, it looks a bit odd in a small room. That’s due to my lack of photography skills. I’m more experienced with portraits. :P
