Hello, I have a question regarding the installation direction of a tile. We have chosen a tile measuring 90x45 cm (35x18 inches), and there is a small arrow on the back indicating the laying direction. The tile has a natural stone look with a slight textured pattern running lengthwise. Now the question came up whether the tile can be cut in half so that the row can start with a half tile. The leftover piece would then be installed at the end of the tile row rotated by 180°. We cannot see any pattern or surface texture on the tile that would argue against this approach. Is this arrow always present on a tile, even if it is not absolutely necessary?
Thanks in advance for your response.

Summary: Only if a) the installation direction is set LENGTHWISE and at the same time b) you want to start every row alternately on the left and right with a half tile, would you need to rotate every second cut piece.
Is that exactly the case for you? If not, there might be a misunderstanding on your part...

Hello
I can easily imagine that a tile laid in the wrong direction only becomes noticeable over a larger area and is not immediately visible when seen individually.
For example, in the hallway situation.
You just need to place half the tile on the correct side each time.

I would definitely follow the installation direction in the living area. We had the same question with the pepper and salt pattern. The expert replied that you can see it afterwards because the surface gloss and even the speckles look different if they are installed the wrong way around.
