waldibaer18 Jun 2016 11:57Hello,
I have been a silent reader for a while and have already received some interesting information. Since our construction is planned to start in September, we have now received individual quotes from the different trades.
We are still uncertain about the heating system. The initial offer includes a gas heating system with storage tank, and as an alternative, a ground source heat pump. A gas connection is available, as the existing house will be demolished and a new building constructed.
There are no questions regarding the gas heating, but there are some concerns about the heat pump. The heating company proposes:
- Vaillant flexotherm 4.63 VWF117/4 exclusive
- Solar module VR70
- Vaillant allSTOR exclusiv VPS 800/3-7
- Vaillant aquaFLOW exclusive VPM 20/25/2W
Now my question is: Does this setup make sense? On one hand, a heat pump, plus solar thermal—which was originally intended only for the gas heating—then an instantaneous water heater and the hot water storage tank, which is necessary. Okay, with the hot water, we probably would never have any issues and could fill a pool with it.
The house is approximately 130m² (1400 sq ft), with ground floor and attic floor, and no basement.
Maybe one of you can explain this to me.
Thanks
Regards,
Marco

ST and tankless water heaters are, in my opinion, unnecessary with a ground-source heat pump.
A 190-liter (50-gallon) hot water tank integrated into the heat pump is sufficient for us.
I don’t know the details of the mentioned heat pump, but it’s questionable whether it’s the right choice if you need a lot of additional components.

waldibaer18 Jun 2016 12:21I thought the same—that both items are unnecessary.
Vaillant also offers two versions; one of them includes a 180 l (48 gallons) hot water tank, which I would say is sufficient for a household of four people.
How many of you are there, and what type of heating system do you have installed?

We have the VWF 58/4 for 190 sqm (square meters) of heated area (excluding the basement) – the storage tank is fine. It was empty only once so far – heating was limited to one time per day, and after three showers, the last child had to shower with colder water in the evening.

Sebastian7918 Jun 2016 20:38They are offering you an 11kW heat pump – steer clear of that, it is completely oversized.
I am a fan of large storage tanks – for me, it would be a dealbreaker if the hot water runs out after just three showers.
