jacktheripper22 Jun 2016 21:13Hello, my first post here.
As a complete beginner when it comes to construction, I wanted to ask for some advice.
It involves a column that is quite obtrusive and has a relatively large cross-section (80cm x 80cm (31.5 inches x 31.5 inches)). We wondered if it might be possible to make the column narrower. So, we hired a structural engineer who said that due to the lack of construction documents, he couldn’t give a definite answer. However, he was quite sure that I could remove it up to the steel beam.
The problem is that instead of steel, wood and bricks were used, as shown in the picture.
I strongly assume this is also load-bearing.
Can you give me any advice? Is there perhaps still a chance to remove part of it?

Can you tell me something about this? Yes: Ask your structural engineer.
Sorry, but no one here in the forum can seriously advise you otherwise.
